Notes

Made for some of my lovely Nieces and Nephews… More to come :D Different color used for outside sole because I didn’t have quite enough of the ‘Good Colors’… It almost looks like I planned it that way (instead of being el-cheapo).

UNSEAMED SOLE MODIFICATION:

To avoid some of the finishing: make the soles without a center seam by casting on 1/2 of the stitches (-1/2) +1 on a circular needle (31+1=33 stitches for men’s Medium) - then pick-up the remaining stitches along the bumps on other side of the first part…

(or you can just do a Judy’s Magic Cast-On http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring06/FEATmagiccaston.html for the total number (+1 on one needle for the center stitch - remember to un-twist the stitches on one side).

You will have to stitch the heel bit closed if you flip at the end of each sole row - or you can even eliminate that by continuing to knit “in the round” at the end of each row - I used a double loop (one at each end of the sole) or two circulars to make that a little easier. Purling every other row (easier with the straight knit rows… but you can do purl increases if those are purl rows) keeps the garter stitch thing going (it makes the resulting sole a little more cushiony, I think)…

The first row is a little tricky: I made sure to transition tightly from one side to the other to avoid extreme laddering - but this saves a lot of hassles for finishing… I’m all for short-cuts when they don’t impact the finished look :D
