I have wanted to do a variation of this pattern and even bought the pattern book for it, but at the time I wasn’t good at reading crochet patterns and found it difficult.

I came across this one and thought it looked nicer than the pattern I had and less fussy.

The pattern is easy to understand and follow and I am enjoying making this little blanket for one of the 3 new babies due to my 2 daughters friends this year. Update: I have had to wait until July 2015 to give this blanket to a baby girl, all of the babies have been boys so far. This is for little Emelia who is the new little daughter of Sarah and Richie, dd Cathy’s friends - Welcome to the world little Amelia, I hope you like you blanket.

I have a couple of blue blankets already made, so thought I had better make a couple of pink ones to be on the safe side. They will always come in handy, even if the babies all turn out to be boys.

Drat!! I have run out of the mid pink and dd Libby gave me a ball she had recently purchased, but James C. Brett, in their wisdom, have changed the consistency of their top value yarn. Where as it used to be a thicker D.K., it is now more like Stylecraft D.K., which of course doesn’t match my older ball of yarn!!!! What to do now???

I have decided to add 2 rows of sc to each side and a woven stitch panel to the top and bottom, which I took from one of Bonnie Barkers beautiful designs here, to make it more oblong than square.

Lesson learned. Make sure you have enough of each colour before embarking on another blanket!!!
