Blanket No: 30 which is a partial stash-buster as part of my Stash-Down Blanket Extravaganza

I saw a lovely blanket on Instagram here and thought it would be a good way of using up some of the oranges in the never-ending unwanted stash mountain.

I am so pleased with how it is turning out. I have used some of my other stash yarns, but it is worth it I think. It is the first time using these colours together for a whole blanket and I think it may not be the last

I try not to use the same centre colour and outer colour in each column and row, so I have come up with a great way of working out quickly what colours I have used.

I make a small square of each colour and crochet them together on a chain, leaving 10 chains in between each colour.

Then when I want to eliminate the colours I have used in that particular column and row, I simply gather up the colours used, leaving the unused colours to choose from. I’ve added a photo so you can see what I mean.

It saves such a lot of time, especially as the blanket gets larger.

I usually make a dozen starter squares of each colour to get me started.

I know that I am a bit OCD about it, but it works for me.

Each square is 4 rounds changing colour each round and a further 3 rounds of another colour = 7 rounds per square.

I used the JAYG method for joining my squares. A tutorial for this method can be found here

Border: Moss Stitch

I worked 3 rounds of granny squares in white.

R1: Orange 3sc in corners, sc in each st.
R2: Lime. For corners I worked 3 sc in the centre st of 3sc in previous round. Ch 1 skip 1 sc, sc in next st.
R3: Peach, work same as R2.
R4: Saffron “ = “
R5: Primrose “ = “
