I am planning to replace my cardboard coasters with knitted and crochet ones thinking this will solve the problem of the coaster sticking to the underside of the cup when wet which is quite annoying. This one is the first of a series. I am planning on using different patterns.
Although I like the outcome of the pattern, I doubt this will be my favorite…
A couple of things about the pattern:

• I only used two colors (one striped, one solid).
• I like the way the short rows are done; with a YO instead of W&T
• You change colors on the outer circle (if I made it again I would make the color changes at the inner circle). I “carried” the yarn by crocheting it into the edge.

With the seaming and making the inner circle you are left with a lot of yarn ends to sew in…
