Notes

I made these to see if they’d make a good project to teach in a class.

I changed the instructions to knit on first one (for the flat part) then two circular needles (in the round).

Turkish Bed Socks
knitted on two circular needles

  1. Cast on instep Needle 1 Knit 24 sts, pick up 2 Needle 2 Pick up 5+3, Cast on 12, pick up 3+5 (=28 sts total on needle2) Needle 1 Pick up 2 , knit to the end (= 28 sts on needle 1)

  2. Instep edging Rounds1-3: Needle 1: Knit all sts Needle 2: k5, p18, k5

  3. knit 24 rounds (see original instructions for length) ( 32 rounds for Matthew; 21 rounds for me)

  4. Toe shaping Round 1: Needle 1: k1, ssk, knit to last 3 sts k2tog, k1 Needle 2: k1, ssk, knit to last 3 sts k2tog, k1 Round 2: knit

Repeat until 16 sts remain (8 sts on each needle).

It is a quick knit and I finished the first Sock in about 3-4 hours (too many interruptions to be able to tell). About half is knitted flat then joined in the round. I choose to rib the instep because the sock felt loose on my foot. Next time I may use a smaller needle (my feet are rather narrow).
