I couldn’t resist a super sized skein (150g) of OOAK hand dyed BFL & silk 4 ply.
As I had 600m, I decided to make Looks like Rain with it as a leaving gift for a lovely lady at work and will be adding the beaded edging.

It’s quite a fine yarn, so I settled on a 3mm hook, although I may go blind in the process!
Following the pattern instructions for making it wider, I’m adding an extra 6 stitches to the first increase section but I’m not adding to the length.

I bought some size 6 beautiful glass beads to use on the edge but I don’t think they’re heavy enough for this yarn… we’ll see when I get to the very edge.

No, not heavy enough… sooo, I’ve ordered more the same and I’m going to put one every other stitch all the way round on the final treble/edge row. Plus, I ordered some larger beads too, on the off chance they will be better.
Now I wait until they arrive….

The new beads were much bigger and did the job perfectly!
I had added a row of dtr eyelets before adding the beaded row. I used roughly 350 tiny beads every other stitch all the way round, plus 110 (I didn’t count them..) on the edge.
I’ll write down the stitch pattern for the beads later.

The beaded edging.

Rather than thread the beads onto the yarn, I added them one by one with a 1mm crochet hook, using it to pull a stitch through the bead. This means there are 2 strands of yarn through each bead, not 1,so they sit better.

I added tiny Japanese toho beads every other stitch along the last row of trebles according to to the pattern, before the pompom trim. (See close up photo)
Then I had added a row of double trebles eyelets in the stitch between the beads, right the way long that long edge again, allowing extra chains on the tips so it still formed a point.

I tried several stitch patterns before finally settling on this really simple one to add the beads along the edge. (They are larger 6mm faceted crystal beads.)

Work a dc, then 3 ch. Dtr into the next tr. Ch1, add a bead, ch1, sl st into the top of the dtr, ch4, dc into next tr. I worked into the treble stitch of each eyelet, not the chain space.
(My tension with ch st is a little tight, so I needed to work ch4, not 3, after adding the bead.)

To actually add the beads, I used a 1mm crochet hook.
After making the chain stitch I pulled that stitch up a little and took out my regular hook. Then I put a bead on the 1mm hook and put the hook into the stitch. I slid down the bead onto the stitch and put down the 1mm hook.
Then I picked up the stitch with my bigger hook and worked the next chain stitch. Then I sl st into the front top 2 loops of the dtr. This makes the beads sit neatly.
