Baby version of Boyfriend jumper.
Based on Barbara Walker’s top down vest + set in sleeves featuring short row shaping for back and front. Finished with tubular bindoff.
Sizing
For 7 months, seems just right for baby (8kg).
My gauge: 18st x 25 rows per 10cm
- shoulder width: 27cm (each front / back)
- neck: 17cm (each front / back)
- body: 29cm (each front / back)
- armhole: 11cm (front / back)
- Back cast on: 48 sts (9 left shoulder + 30 neck + 9 right shoulder)
- Sleeves: 40 stitches
- Body (worked in round): 104 stitches
On hindsight..
- Back and front shoulder short rows shaping is too excessive and ruching up neck. Probably don’t need that for babies. (I did it every 4 stitches)
- Should add 1 or 2 rows for shoulder as neckline is too high?
- Also armhole shaping I did was a bit weird, probably better to give more underarm stitches, and don’t curve it so much at the top.
- For set-in sleeves short row shaping, better to use wrap and turn (Barbara Walker only said to turn) as the stitches can get very loose and have holes. And maybe leave the end yarn free to tighten up later? (I always work them in too soon!)
Lessons learnt (tubular bo)
Better to start tubular bo on the RS as the other side will look a little slanty and less neat
Can use ‘invisible bo’ method for the grafting instead of using 2 pairs of circular needles. They are essentially the same. Not everyone has 2 circulars!
