i combined 2 mmario patterns:
“i prefer pi” and i inserted the “selion” pattern (with just 1 repeat) in the center
- it looks great; then i decided to toss in a seaman/’stay-put’ feature adding 14 inches of brioche rib in the middle/neck of the scarf.
Note
i wrote up a draft of this combo pattern, sent it mmario, who is planning on tweaking & charting it, then “filing” it on m2k2 yahoo group under the name he came up with - “Madam I’m Adam” Scarf :D
- cast on 46 st using “Helen’s Double Chain Cast On” http://bit.ly/1VVNuP8
- i then knit 2 rows to give the whole scarf a narrow garter st border all the way around, setting up to start the pattern on “ws”.
- i knit the 1st 18 st of the “i prefer pi” pattern, placed marker; knit the 10 st of the “selion” pattern (with just 1 repeat), placed marker; k1,p1 then knit the last 16 st of the “i prefer pi” pattern.
- if you want symmetry after the 2nd marker p1, k1 across (instead of k1,p1) that way the center “selion” pattern has a p on either side - basically mirror the right hand side of the rs.
- i opted to throw in a “stay put”/“seaman” scarf feature i.e. knit “in pattern” approx. 28 inches, switched to a basic brioche rib knit for about 14 inches, then switched back to the “pattern” finishing by knitting the same number of pattern 8 row repeat (i.e. about 25 cable repeats) ending on the 7 row; knit 2 rows and BO using the matching bind-off http://bit.ly/1K05j6k.

top 3: finished, measures 70 inches (pre-blocking)
- i knit the combo pattern for 28 inches then i added 14 inches of a basic brioche rib st in the center of the scarf (for around the neck) and finished it by knitting the combo pattern for 28 inches.
