Heirloom Knitting in Okehampton, Devon

A Holy Communion shawl for my cousin. I got the pattern elements from Heirloom Knitting, only to find out that Sharon Miller has actually published a very similar shawl. I have done certain things differently though, looking through the project pictures.

I incorporated the diamond edges into the corners of the shawl border, whereas Sharon Miller’s pattern has a wedge of garter stitch - this is probably because the diamond edges are slightly offset and therefore don’t make for clean increases either side of the corner st. Also I didn’t use a variety of patterns to fill in the diamonds.

I also cobbled together my own lace edging, with the help of some fellow ravelers, which made swatching it so much easier!

I tried to graft the lace edge start and finish in pattern, using the knit-first-and-last-row-in-contrasting-waste-yarn method, but that didn’t work out for me. It was still too bl%dy difficult!
