Tower Stairs is another of the traveling socks, mostly vanilla with a spiraling cable pattern added for fun. The cable pattern winds around the leg before gradually decreasing off the side of the foot.

One of my pet peeves with colorwork is the jog at the beginning of the round. Madeline uses a non-repeating ivy and leaf pattern that swirls around the sock to eliminate the jog.

Still Warped is a variation on a basic ribbed sock, with the ribbing worked in four angled columns.

Unlike the Borg, I have found that a combination of both order and chaos is a good thing. Of course, it does need to be a good type of chaos.

Mix up the stripes! I often use self striping for vanilla socks, but this time, vanilla socks just didn’t cut it. Add in a challenge to manipulate self striping yarn, and you have Manipulative.

Braided cables and a rope cable, both worked in ribbing add enough interest, but are simple enough that you can take your eyes off the chart.

Brick Walkway started as one of my traveling socks - just enough interest so they aren’t boring. The socks feature an interwoven cable pattern down the front of the leg/instep.

A request from a friend for a sunflower blanket was the perfect opportunity for this idea. Sun Chaser uses pi shaping and increases every other round for a squarish shape. Nupps are used to create the seeds.

Never Say Never came from my nephew’s request for a scarf. As his only request was that it be blue, I was free to make it however I wanted.

Parquetry is a geometric pattern made from pieces of wood. The slipped stitches in this pattern remind me of parquet floors.

The Terrible Troll Bird was a favorite when we were little and inspired the motifs in the Troll Bird Tam. Once the tam was completed, I needed mitts to go with it.

I love fairy tales, especially new variations and seeing how the tales have changed over time. These socks, with cables and twisted stitches, are an interpretation of the twists and turns in those tales.

One of the problems I have with an all-over colorwork pattern is the pattern shift at the beginning of the round. Rather than taking the easy route with panels separated by divider stitches, the pattern repeat is such that the jog is not noticeable.

This pattern started with the yarn. I found a skeinlette bundle at Knitters’ Day Out and immediately pictured a shawl. The mental picture eventually became this shawl.

My mother likes to appropriate hand knit items, such as shawls and socks. I don’t mind making things for her, as she does appreciate them. She has an unfortunate habit of wearing shawls wrong side out. This shawl is designed to be completely reversible, courtesy of garter stitch and ribbing.

A tell tale sign of summer (at least to me) are the bees buzzing and dancing around my flowers. The center of the shawl represents the hive itself and then transitions to representations of the flora that bees seem to like.

I went through a phase when I was a child where I read a lot of Choose Your Own Adventure books. It would take me forever to finish one, as I would then retrace my steps through the book to make sure I had read every single possibility. Unlike the book versions, none of the choices in this pattern will result in serious bodily injury or death.

White Snows of Winter is a full sized lace shawl that is a stylized representation of a snowflake. The main pattern is repeated to create the symmetry.

This is not your basic ribbed sock. It is based in 2x2 ribbing, with 4 panels of angled ribbing. The sock is worked toe up with a short row heel.

In Norse mythology, the Valkyries are the handmaidens of Odin who escort dead heroes to Valhalla. In every depiction, the Valkyries always have long braids.

What better tribute to the summer sun than the glorious sun herself? Sun in Glory by Kate Poe is knit from the top down by casting on a few stitches and uses approximately 600 size 8 beads in its long rays.

The name of the shawl was inspired by the stitch pattern and the fact that this shawl was designed as a gift for one of my best friends.

Seasons of Persephone is constructed using Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Pi formula and is available as both a circular and a half circle shawl.

A simple lace scarf that can be knit with any weight of yarn. Samples were done with fingering and sport/dk yarn (both handspun). Gauge for samples was 5 stitches with fingering weight and 4 stitches with sport/dk.

My father has always maintained that he is never warm and will never be warm. In an effort to help him be not as cold, I made a thrummed hat for him for Christmas.

Pattern is easy to memorize and the size can be altered by increasing the stitch count in multiples of 4.
