I offer timeless, classically-inspired designs interpreted in contemporary terms. Along with recommendations for the yarns used in each pattern. Many are eco-yarns, meeting the highest standards for environmental sensitivity and contact with humans.

I started knitting almost 40 years ago, and quickly learned to design my own patterns. Over the years, I’ve talked to women and men from New York to Kansas to L.A., and conducted research among thousands of knitters. I asked what they really want in a hand-knit sweater, and they told me, which became the basis for James Cox Knits designs.

The patterns I offer are being crafted and worn by both men and women. Many are knit from the top down, in the round, and have no seams to be sewn. Almost all patterns are accompanied by a unique row checker, a helpful tool for keeping track of stitch counts row-by-row, increases and decreases. Trouble shooting becomes easier, and after weeks or months you can return to your work and pick up exactly where you left off.

A library on pattern specific terms and techniques (with links to video tutorials) is on my web site, along with downloadable guides for top down knitting.
