Thursday Tip: Make it together!
… and it is so fun to make a pattern alongside other knitters and see their progress. Today I thought I’d share a bit about how to find and participate in a knit along (often abbreviated KAL), crochet along (CAL), spin along (SAL) or other craft along. In a craft along, groups of crafters will join together to cheer each other on as they all work on similar projects – sometimes the same pattern, sometimes a group of patterns all from the same book, sometimes using the same yarn/fiber.

How do I find and join a group or knit/crochet along?
Groups are one of the primary places people connect on Ravelry. You can search for groups by location or category in the groups tab. You can also search for knit and crochet alongs there.
Once you find a group you would like to join, you can click the “join this group” button in the top right of the group page. This will add the group to your profile and the group discussion threads will be shown under your forums tab. You can customize your forums tab to make things easier to find.

Thursday Tip: Group Categories
I’ve had a lot of fun lately participating in a knit-along group on Ravelry so I wanted to let you know how you can find groups by categories that you might be interested in. You can search for groups by category by going to the groups tab and clicking “browse groups by category”.
On the left of the screen, you’ll see categories (keep scrolling down, there are a bunch of them) and then click on the category to see the groups in that category. For example, this is …

Thursday Tip: The Forum Radar
… a couple of things you should know about the forum radar. If it says “SPOILER” in the subject of the thread, then the contents of the post won’t show in the radar. Also, if a group doesn’t want to be shown in the forum radar, their admin can click the box next to “hide posts from radar” in their group settings, and their posts …

Thursday Tip: Win at Yarn Chicken
… good that I’ll win at yarn chicken.
view yardage in other projects
The problem with Cadeautje was entirely my fault. I looked up in advance how much yarn the pattern called for, and picked out exactly the right amount at Rhinebeck. But somehow when I sat down to knit I realized that I wrote down the wrong number along the way and only had 125 yards, instead of the 190 called for in the pattern. Since sometimes patterns overestimate the yardage needed, I decided to look at the range used in …
