I began designing knitted garments, mostly sweaters, vests and booties when I heard I was going to become a grandma! Grandmothers are mothers who are truly blessed, and then become grand :D . Nowadays I am not quite certain as to which is more interesting…whether it’s the designing part or the knitting what I have designed, and seeing the creation of what I have dreamed and envisaged. Of one thing I am absolutely certain..typing out the pattern instructions from rough notes scribbled on one-side used paper, is most important….there are knitting patterns in me which want to be told! Exclusive. Exquisite. Enchanting.
I began by drooling over the world’s most awesome merino wool: Cascade Yarns. Looking at the online catalogue and choosing colours. I wanted to make an adult unisex sweater in L size. So I chose Cascade Yarns 128 Superwash, which is 100% Superwash Merino Wool. 100 gms per skein. The colours I chose were:
Blue Horizon #896 – 2 skeins
Opal #218 – 2 skeins
Ultra Violet #302 – 6 skeins
Periwinkle #844 – 10 skeins
Sapphire Heather #1951 – 2 skeins
Silver Blue #301 – 2 skeins.
I changed my mind about using Opal with the adult sized sweater, after knitting quite a lot, (& then frogging), thinking that this particular shade of green did not jell with the rest of the colours. So, for this quick knit, I used the 2 skeins of Opal with the remainder left-over wool, & made a glorious little unisex sweater that anyone would be proud to gift / put on a 2 Year old. A busy mother need not wash this garment carefully by hand. It can be put into the washing machine and will not spoil. Store your merino knits carefully, they will be family heirlooms one day! It takes two to win applause: my patterns & you creating them.
