I really wanted to knit a stocking for my daughter that would be both Christmas themed but quite classic as well. In the end I came up with this simple design which I think will be well loved and used for years to come.

What you will need:

• Yarn – 200gm Worsted/Aran Weight Yarn (anything in the range of 180-200m 200-220 yards per 100gm). Alternatively you can hold fingering or sport weight yarn held double. Yarn used in sample – Fern Fiber yarns on the Romney Sport base in Natural (Grey) and Goldenrod & Indigo (Green), yarn was held double throughout.

• Needles – 5mm (US8) 16inch (40cm) circular needle – or DPN’s, Plus a longer cable (or DPN’s) for the toe decreases. Note; if you are a tight colourwork knitter you may want to go up one or two needle sizes for the colourwork section.

• Notions – 4 Stitch Markers, 1 Beginning of the Round marker (different from the others) and 3 other markers.

• Gauge – Approx 4.5 sts/inch in stockinette

• Size – The stocking instructions are provided for one size only (as shown in the picture) however please read the Notes on Adjusting Pattern Size to see how and where to make changes to customize the sizing.

 - 22inches/55cm length and 18inches/46cm circumference in the finished stocking
