It’s your weekend to relax, knit with friends, take a break from the kids, and have fun creating A Whimsical Weekend Shawl. This shawl is a blast to knit, and it shows off that skein of variegated yarn so nicely with a large section of stockinette stitch. It’s knit flat and has very simple cabled edges. (Even if you’ve never knit cables before, you can do this!) Cast on only 25 stitches, work the cabled edges with stockinette in between, increasing 1 stitch every 4 rows. Once you’ve used up half the yarn, start decreasing every 4 rows until you only have 25 stitches left to bind off.

Measurements: Length - 56” (142 cm). Height at deepest point - 9.5” (24 cm).

Gauge in stockinette: 28 sts and 32 rows over 4” (10 cm)

Skill Level: Adventurous beginner. This is a great “first cable” pattern.

Yarn: 1 skein of fingering weight yarn (or more or less yarn if you prefer). The pattern is easily modified to use up the amount of yarn you have.
