The unique construction of this hat reminds me of the classic airstream trailers which were a patchwork of metal sheets and rivets. This hat is created in a similar way from a number of parts and has the same retro styling. The body of the hat is knit in the round and folded over to create an extra warm and stretchy hat. The front and brim of the hat are created by picking up stitches. The top was knit separately and sewn on. Airstream takes the quintessential knit 2 purl 2 rib and turns it into a unique hat which can be worn by everyone.

Errata - Top of Hat - Final stitch count for the adult size should be 44 sts, not 48.
