A breathtaking stole, but one that’s not too difficult at all. Noble starts by really loosening up the gauge, which makes the plain st st parts of the fabric look like lace themselves; then she introduces a simple border pattern before launching into the overall diamond eyelet one. The lace diamonds spilling down the fabric give an impression of delicate luxury; but the knitter knows that because of the extreme regularity and large graphic qualities of the motif, it’s hard to make mistakes-- and if you do, they’ll be visible very soon. Lace pattern is written out only, not charted.
