America 250 Is Literally Just a Birthday

4th of July Socks was created to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States. This design is patriotic, not partisan, and is not intended to express support for Donald Trump, his administration, any political party, candidate, or political movement. The stars, stripes, and red, white, and blue colors are used solely as symbols of the United States and its 250th anniversary.

The design features American flag-inspired stars, bold stripes, a stitched USA detail, colorwork across the leg and foot, and bright contrast cuffs, heels, and toes. The sample shown was knit in Wollmeise Twin using Blaue Tinte, Tulpe, and Schneeflocke—a rich navy, flag-red, and crisp white palette chosen to closely match the American flag.

This pattern includes written instructions, full-color charts, heel placement guidance, foot-length markers, toe instructions, and a step-by-step visual tutorial for the twin-stitch short-row heel.

Sizes included: Adult Small/Medium, Large, and XL. Both chart options include marked foot-length points so knitters can customize the finished length for the wearer.

Yarn: Fingering weight sock yarn suitable for stranded colorwork. The sample uses Wollmeise Twin, 80% superwash merino / 20% nylon, approximately 510 yards per 150 g skein. Cascade Heritage or another high-contrast fingering weight sock yarn may be substituted.

Gauge: 40 stitches and 44 rounds = 4 in / 10 cm in stranded colorwork, worked in the round on US 1 / 2.25 mm needles.

Skills needed: knitting in the round, reading colorwork charts, stranded knitting, short rows, decreases, and Kitchener stitch.
