The Aster Overlay was designed while waiting and dreaming of the new Downton Abbey movie. The Overlay (a garment worn over a blouse or dress) can be made in any size - you try it on during various stages of the construction and make it however large or small, short or long, that you wish.

There are 2 strips of motifs in the garment (one on each side running up the front, over the shoulder, then down to the back hem). The strips are then crocheted along the long edges to widen them. A small triangle is crocheted for the upper back, then the widened strips and the triangle are seamed together, with optional shaping if desired. Garment can optionally be lengthened at this point. Finally, a round of edging is done to the entire garment.

It is pinned closed at the front using a button, brooch, or shawl pin.

The pattern is written and also charted, and has been tested by a group of great testers.
