Do you ever come across a yarn quality that you are unsure how to use? This happened to me a while ago, when I first encountered Cirro. It is a heavier, fluffy yarn that comes in various colors and usually with a black core.

The color contrast of the main fiber with the dark core was what made me wonder how to use the yarn effectively. But I did not let this thought discourage me. I challenged myself to find a solution to this uncertainty. I started looking at what others have made with this yarn on Ravelry and I got inspired to experiment. My first swatch was definitely out of my comfort zone when it comes to colorwork. I persisted, and after a few iterations with various stitch patterns, I came up with the main swatch for Aubrig.

My “solution” was to match the dark core by working Cirro together with a black yarn. This combination gave extra dimension and depth to both yarns, and eventually, a very interesting look.

Aubrig is a stretchy cowl worked in a simple ribbing pattern. The relaxed stitch gauge allows for easy yarn substitution with many kinds of yarn qualities. It also gives the opportunity for color play and using up any amount of stash leftovers.

Instructions are given in written abbreviated form.
