Since I began crocheting, I have always been somewhat surprised by the reaction to the humble granny square. Isn’t it funny how we pick up a hook for the first time and not one of us wanna crochet the “boring granny square”? Hekkit no! we want to make an Ardith first time out the gates!!! lolol and yes, I was one of them also
But I have a huge affection for granny squares, they are one of the most versatile little inventions ever come up with in my opinion! A dash of colour and some gorgeous yarn and a granny can be just as pretty as any other blanket.
With Babushka, the idea was to get everyone out of that “eeeek, I can’t join squares and I hate grannies” mindset, and get you all to see just how pretty that lowly little granny square can be They’re not so difficult to join and are the perfect project for watching tv, carrying around with you or using up those bits of yarn we all get stuck with ❤
I hope that you will enjoy the pattern and it will change your mind if you’ve previously hated the poor little granny square

Babushka is totally adaptable to suit any yarn type and create and blanket size.
The original design is worked to make a 95cm x 95cm baby blanket using ColourSpun DK Cotton and Moya Shimmer (4ply)

You are more than welcome to work the blanket in any yarn of your choice. However, depending on the yarn and tension, you may have a size difference.

It uses US terminology and is worked in rounds.
