Wondering what do to with your left over sock yarn scraps? Do you want to make socks for your baby/toddler but not sure where to begin? Then this pattern is just what you need!

The pattern includes general sizes for 0-3 months up to 18-24months children feet including specific foot length measurements. In addition to this I have also included instructions on how to make a custom sock based on your child’s foot measurements and your specific gauge. You can also use this guideline to knit socks out of different weight yarns as well as using your standard fingering/sock weight yarn.

What you will need:

Yarn – 20-50g of Sock Yarn (anything in the range of 80-200m 87-218 yards)

Needles – 2.25mm or 2.5mm (US 1 or 1.5) on a Long cable for magic loop. Size of needles depends on thickness of yarn being used.

Notions – I do not use stitch markers to mark beginning of the round as I use the tail for that. I do use a progress keeper to keep track of my row count and how many rows I have done (this can also work to mark the right side of your work).

Gauge – Approx 8 sts/inch in stockinette

Size – Please note the sock sizes indicated in the pattern are purely indicative and I would always encourage you to measure the foot of the child you intend to knit socks for if you can. Otherwise if that is not possible the below measurements are a good approximation. Also remember that all children are different and some babies are smaller/larger than the average for their age. I would suggest its generally better to go up a size than down as they will eventually grow into something that is a little big for them now. Socks are sized as follows:
- 1 - 0-3 months – 4inch foot circumference, 3.5inch foot length
- 2 - 3-6 months – 4.5inch foot circumference, 4inch foot length
- 3 - 6-12 months – 5inch foot circumference, 4.5inch foot length
- 4 - 12-18 months – 5.5inch foot circumference, 5inch foot length
- 5 - 18-24 months – 6inch foot circumference, 5.5inch foot length

Notes:
Instructions are provided based on the Magic Loop Method of sock knitting, as this is the only way I knit my socks. However; these instructions can easily be adapted for your preferred method of sock knitting.

Please also note this pattern includes instructions on how to knit the Generic German Short Row Heel (which is included in most of my sock patterns) and this heel can be knit over any number of stitches. However, you can of course substitute any other heel you prefer to use.

Socks shown in photos are in the 6-12month size shown on a 7 month old baby
