There are many basic sock patterns around but this is one that I developed with simplicity and with the English tradition in mind. It is intended for the first time sock knitter and is one size only - adult medium.

This pattern includes my recommendations to avoid holes at the heel flap.

The socks are:

  • cuff down
  • knitted in the round using double pointed needles
  • knitted with the stitches held on three needles and knitted around with a 4th needle (traditional English style)
  • heel flap and gusset construction

This pattern instructs the knitter on how many stitches to keep on each needle. This is intended to help the first time sock knitter.
