Color charts are given for the entire blanket (tumbling blocks are charted in black, gray and white) with border as shown, but you can get creative and make any border desired. Directions on how to make optional attached I-cord edging are not included in pattern, as there are a lot of video directions out there for you on the net.

Row-by-row directions and pattern repeat are given for the tumbling blocks, so you can use just that section to make something else.

The secret to making this a fun intarsia knit is to pull out lengths of light, medium and dark yarn ahead of time, and fold and tie them into separate hanks. This puts them at the ready to pull a yarn through at the fold every time you need a color change.
Colors are randomly chosen, no thinking ahead, just grab and go from your tied-up hanks.
Measurements for the yarn lengths are the same for each color block section, and given in the pattern directions.

I know it’s hard to believe, but this will quickly become a mindless knit, as the geometric shapes make it easy to follow the knitting, rather than getting stuck counting sts from the chart.
Take your time and enjoy the process, and you’ll be greatly rewarded for your perseverance!
P.S. Please excuse the yellow lab hair on my afghan photos. I told her she couldn’t get on the bed. Yeah, right.
