Meet Bonnie, a mother hen with her own little brood of chicks. (though it looks like one decided to sleep in a bit!)

She can be made in any yarn and hook combination you want. Just be certain that the fabric is firm enough that stuffing does not show through.

My Bonnie and her babies are made in Vanna’s Choice Solids using five colors.

  • Honey (120 yards)
  • Scarlet (20 yards)
  • Duckie (55 yards)
  • Terracotta (5 yards)
  • White (30 yards)

Bonnie is an advanced beginner-level pattern. Skills you will need include single crochet, single crochet into the bottom of a foundation chain, increases, decreases, joining pieces together with crochet, and some seaming. Included is a photo tutorial on how create child-safe eyes from felt, although instructions for using plastic safety eyes are given as well.

The pattern has plenty of progress photos to help you along your way to making your own chicken and a whole brood of babies!
