Capering Cables Cowl
As we started to move into spring I wanted a reasonably lightweight cowl that was smart enough for work but also good for the weekend. I love doing spontaneous cables, just starting at the bottom and deciding where they want to go as I go along… so this is the result with wavy edges and entwining cables.
The cowl is worked in the round so no seams to sew up. I worked 2 different sizes, 160cm circumference, for a more slouch cowl or 152cm circumference for a snugger, warmer fit. I include information on how you can increase or decrease the circumference and length with the pattern.
The pattern used just 3 straight forward cable stitches to give a diamond pattern and 2 different styles of cables. You will need a circular needle about 56cm (22 inches) in length with size 4.5 mm points (UK size 7, USA size 7) or the size you need to give you the right tension.
You can use any double knit wool for the pattern- I’ve worked examples in single colour, slightly fluffy wool and in variegated, to give stripes.
