Knitting pattern cardigan Sophia - girls 2 - 10 years in 5 sizes

This cute girls cardigan has a beautiful structure, but is only knitted with simple knitting stitches, namely only knit and purl. This cardigan is knitted with a mixture of wool and alpaca and is great for autumn and winter. If you want a cardigan more suitable for spring and summer, knit this cardigan with a cotton blend. (The pink cardigan for size 4 years is made with wool and alpaca, the blue cardigan for size 10 years is made with a cotton blend)

This knitting pattern is available in 5 sizes: 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 years and is available in English and in Dutch.

Materials:

  • Yarn with yarn weight DK / Light worsted (depending on size you need 450 - 770 meters / 495 - 850 yards)
  • Circular knitting needles US 6 / UK 8 (= 4 mm) with a length of 60 cm (all parts of the jacket are knitted flat; because of the amount of stitches for the cardigan I used a circular needle)
  • Needle to finish threads and to sew buttons on the cardigan
  • For every size: 5 buttons with a diameter of 1.5 cm
  • Crochet hook to pick up stitches for neck and front

Level: intermediate
You must have knowledge of:
o Knit and Purl stitches
o Increasing and decreasing following a stitch pattern
o Picking up stitches for neckband and front bands

Gauge with knitting needles 6 (US), 8 (UK), 4mm in garterstitch: 22 stitches and 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inch (garterstitch = knit every row)

The cardigan is worked bottom up. At the armholes, the cardigan is divided into 3 parts: the back and the left and right front. All three parts are finished separately.
The sleeves are also knitted flat then seemed and sewed in the cardigan. To finish the cardigan you have to pick up stitches for the neckband and pick up stitches at the front for the button bands.
