Nature in spring is all about color - from the incredible new greens of the trees to the rainbow of the countless flowers, fresh and brilliant colors are abundant everywhere you look. One of my favorite blooming trees is the eastern redbud or Cercis (pronounced sur-sis). Before any of its pretty heart-shaped leaves appear, the tree’s branches are covered with countless flowers ranging in color from white and pale pink to vivid magenta purple, adding startling color throughout the countryside.

Inspired by the color of this beautiful yarn, I wanted to design a lace wrap reminiscent of the redbud trees in bloom. I used a modern linear lace pattern which looks like a string of flowers because it reminded me of the flowering branches. Then, to make this asymmetric triangular shawl reversible, I added some simple textured stitches throughout the lace.

Cercis requires only basic stitches, has a simple four-row 12-stitch repeat, and is worked end-to-end with just one skein of fingering yarn, all of which makes this a quick project easy enough even for a novice lace knitter.
