Knit up a penguin! Chilly Charlie is the perfect little present for penguin fans (or fans of anything adorable), and he’s a real doddle to knit – everything’s knitted flat. He’s chock-full of simple increases and decreases, in between easy-peasy garter and stocking stitch. Use a fun mix of appliqué and intarsia to create his white tummy and inquisitive eyes – with sweet black buttons for the finishing touch.

IN THE PATTERN: The pattern has row numbers for each step so you don’t lose your place, photos, a list of abbreviations and explanation of some techniques, a materials list and recommended yarns. The pattern is 6 pages and written in English.

TECHNIQUES: All pieces are knitted flat (back and forth) on a pair of straight knitting needles. You will need to cast on and off, knit, purl, work increases and decreases, sew seams, and intarsia colour-work.

  • A pair of straight 3.25mm knitting needles (US 3)
  • 4 ply yarn; less than 50g per colour
  • Toy filling
  • Buttons for eyes
