Chunky Brioche Cowl (with a Moebius Twist)

The leaves are changing color around here and with the arrival of Fall, I’ve been newly inspired to knit brioche cowls and scarves. This pattern has a very simple form of the brioche stitch. There are so many wonderful baby alpaca and other chunky yarn choices available, every one of them will be extra luxurious when knit in the stitch. Give it a try and enjoy!

Knit this delightfully soft and warm chunky cowl in just a few hours.

The finished size is 8 inches x 26 inches in circumference.

Misti Alpaca Yarns and Plymouth Yarns offer luxurious baby alpaca yarn in solids, and hand paints from which to choose.

Pictured: Cowl knit in Plymouth Yarn Baby Alpaca Grand Hues, #7051 and Misti Alpaca Yarns with color CP24, Magic Flute. The gauge is 2 ½ stitches to the inch in brioche rib stitch.

Plymouth Yarns has solids, hand paints, tweeds and even a sparkly version of chunky baby alpaca.

It is an ideal project for approximately 100 yards of the many chunky yarn choices available.

Note: Consider making your own chunky yarn by holding two strands of worsted weight yarn together. I’ve just knit two cowls, one using a double strand of Eco Duo and the other with a double strand of Coffee Beenz. Both had beautiful results. Enjoy!

Another Note: For a seamless join, use the provisional cast on method and graft the ends together with the Kitchner stitch. You will need to knit two rows for the set up, then begin the K1, K1 below pattern.

Enjoy!
