This pattern is based on my basic recipe for mittens. Knit snugly, they have a nice thick garter stitch cuff to keep the cold and snow out. Sized for children through adults.

Having raised 8 children, I have knit many, many mittens over the years but never more than I have made for my youngest. By the time the mittens were handed down to him they were either full of holes or so felted from use that they were too small. Carl insists on growing! That means that I am knitting new mittens for him almost every year. At 13 years old now, his hands are almost as big as mine. Despite the fact that he can knit his own, he still loves Mom’s mittens best.

The matching hat or fingerless mitts in the companion patterns will keep you warm and looking great. Better knit up several sets for the next blast of cold! All three pieces can be made from two skeins of the main color and one skein of contrast.

Thanks so much to my test knitters!
