Introducing… The “CR Balloons” Graph Collection!

The Cedar Rapids area is home to several balloons that can be seen flying around town and at local balloon glows.

The first in the collection is Cropduster. Operated by Balloon Travels Unlimited, Cropduster was a regular sight in the CR skies 2012-2015.

Please check out and follow me on Facebook at Crafty Curl to receive information as more pieces of the CR Balloons Collection are released.

With different graphed projects being wildly popular right now, this chart should work for a variety of styles. The size for the graph was based off of Sarah Zimmerman’s Crochet Christmas Character Afghan blocks, worked in a 25x25 grid. She has lots of amazing tips and advice, so I recommend checking out her Repeat Crafter Me blog.

If I’d read her advice first, I would have crocheted this block differently, using the hdc C2C pattern with a size F hook instead of the dc C2C pattern with a size G hook. This block worked up to 19”x19” for me, and I have redone it with the hdc C2C pattern to be 14”x14”.

If you intend to complete the collection as a blanket, I strongly encourage you to do your research and pick your method (dc C2C, hdc C2C, bobble stitch, etc.) before you begin. I also recommend using a single brand of yarn for the project as different brands tend to work up (and wash up) differently. Plan on 1-2 skeins for the background color, and one skein each of the other colors. You can use these colors in other blocks as well.

Happy Hooking!
