With this crochet pattern, you can make a cute caterpillar butterfly metamorphosis cuddly toy.

Size & Age
This cutie is the perfect handmade gift for a babyshower, but also for children that are a bit older and can already change the caterpillar into a butterfly themselves. If you make the toy according to the pattern, it will be a medium sized toy of about 18 cm / 7 inch tall.

Features
This amigurumi is not just very cute, but also educational. You can also use it to explain how a hungry caterpillar transforms into a beautiful butterfly!

The rings that make up the body of the caterpillar can rotate for extra fun. If you intend to make this toy for a baby, you can easily add a rattle bead and some crinkle material. For older children, I leave those out and let it be like a doll that they can dress and undress.

Skill level
Intermediate: basic knowledge of different crochet stitches is required.

Yarn
I used four colors of fine cotton yarn and 1 ball of 50 g per color + some leftover color to embroider the face. You only need the full 50 g of the caterpillar’s body color and less of the other colors. I like to use Schachenmayr Catania or Scheepjes Catona yarn, but you can use any fine yarn that is 100 % cotton.

Free Gift Labels
It is a lovely handmade gift and in case you plan to make this toy as a present, Home of Yarns also has a gift for you: a free printable gift label to make your present look even more awesome!

Languages
This pattern is available in 4 languages: UK English, USA English, German (Deutsch) and Dutch (Nederlands)!

Color blind friendly
I made an effort to make all of the Home of Yarns patterns color blind friendly, with dark text on a white background and if a chart is included, it is always in addition to written out instructions. For the charts, I use symbols in either black and white or other highly contrasting color combinations. I am quite positive that I did a good job, but I am no expert on color blindness.
