A feast to knit and wear - Fiona Alice’s Dark Nights set is a matching hat and mittens illuminated by contrast slip stitches that represent candle flames in the darkness, cozy nights and magical promise. The Charcoal and Ochre shades of Hudson Worsted are combined here for a perfect candlelight contrast.

As autumn transforms into winter, the nights steadily grow longer and darker. Staying indoors to escape the bitter cold or harsh winds becomes second nature. Lighting candles and knitting next to the fire is a familiar ritual during this time. The slipped stitches on Fiona Alice’s Dark Nights set, mimics the flames from candles which can be seen burning through the windows. The slip stitch pattern naturally creates an impenetrable fabric. When paired with the merino and yak blend of Hudson Worsted, this set is becomes quite luxurious and much needed if one ventures out into these cold and dark nights.

Notes: Yarns A and B are never used together in the same round. If making the full set, only one skein of yarn B will be required. Two skeins of yarn A will still be needed – one for the hat and one for the mittens. The smaller circumference of the mittens results in a tighter gauge than that of the hat, even when using the same needle. However, depending on your knitting style you may find you also need to use a smaller needle to achieve the tighter gauge.
