Nikata’s Tale, Part III: (Find Parts I & II in the Dragon Lace Scarf and Hat patterns)

As Nikata approached his grandmother’s house, he heard noises coming from the garden around back. He smiled to himself and walked around to join her. Aviyoma was well known for her skill at potion crafting, and she grew nearly all her own herbs. Nikata had spent many hours helping her keep her collection immaculately maintained. It was a lot of hard work, but it had always seemed to go quickly when they worked together, while she shared fascinating stories of her days as a young girl, before the dragons had been forced into hiding. She knew more about the humans than anyone he knew, which was the primary reason for his visit today. A human boy named Lewis had discovered Nikata’s favorite canyon, and after a very tense first meeting, they had been getting to know one another for several weeks now. When his parents found out, they had forbid Nikata to return to the canyon, not even to tell Lewis that he wouldn’t be coming back…. (Read the rest of the story in the pattern!)

The Design:
This toe-up pattern includes a simple wedge toe and German short row heel. The lace work on the top of the foot continues around the leg after working the heel, then the twisted stitch motif is maintained through the cuff before finishing off with a stretchy bind off which creates a gentle scallop. The length of the foot and the leg are customized to fit as you go.

Yarn Used in Sample:
Jojoland Melody Superwash, Reddish Plum, 220 y/1.76 oz (201 m/50 g); 100% wool.

Yardage Used:
one full skein for anklets.

Other Notions:
Needle for weaving in ends, optional stitch markers (4).

Skill Level Intermediate:
Simple lace, working in the round, German short row heel.

Stitches Used:
Center Double Dec, double st, k, k2tog, kfb, ktbl, mds, p, ssk, yo.
