Drifting Dunes is a crescent shawl knitted from side to side.
The whole shawl knitted in short rows. The simplicity of the pattern (17 short rows would be repeated over and over) would be allow the beginners to learn or advance short row technic, for experienced knitters it would be easy and mindless project. The rotation of the contrasting colors allows to use the skeins evenly.
This is an adjustable shawl which could be shorter or longer to the taste of the knitter.
However, the suggested yarn is Rowan Kidsilk Haze - blend of 70% mohair and 30% silk offers 229 yards per ball and 2 ball would make reasonable size of 76 inch x 17 inch shawl. It is a luxury fiber: extremely soft and light weight gives you sensation of cloud on your shoulders. It is the most durable and resilient natural fiber. It feels warm in winter as it has excellent insulating properties, while remaining cool in summer due to its moisture-wicking properties. It comes in large variety contrasting colors, which could allow to create many combinations.
