The Eilir Shawl represents fairy wings. Featuring an unusual construction, the main body is worked from the top down then short rows are worked to give definition to each “wing”. The lace border can then be worked with or without beads. Two sizes are given and they may be worked in any size yarn. A large in worsted yarn and small in fingering yarn with a gauge of 4 st per inch will yield a shawl about 72in x 48 in. It is possible to “change your mind” if you decide to do another size when you reach the end of Part 1. Your yarn requirements will obviously change too.

The instructions for the body of the pattern are written only, with charts only for the lace border.

Materials:
Small 700-900 yards of your choice of yarn
Large 900-1200 of your choice of yarn
30g of 8/0 beads for fingering weight/70g of 6/0 beads for worsted weight (you will need fewer for a small but it is always a good idea to get more than you need due to imperfections and dropped beads)
Blocking wires (or string and a lot of pins)
Needle to weave in ends
1 stitch marker of one color for center marker, 4 stitch markers of another color

Yarn suggestions:
DO NOT CHOOSE A SELF STRIPING YARN!!!! DO NOT CHOOSE A GRADIENT YARN!!!!! You will be very sad if you do! See the comments for a graphic of the results if you use a gradient.
DO choose solids, tonals, variegated yarns with short color changes.
Your yarn must block really well
