This pattern was designed to take advantage of the long color changes in the yarn: Feederbrook Farms Entropy DK. I think it would look equally well in gradients.
The eyelets are created by wrapping the yarn twice, then, on the next row, dropping one of the wraps. This exaggerates the opening of the eyelet so it does not get lost or compete with the texture or color variations of the yarn.
