Fastened, and faster. Plain stockinette mitts with a twist. Knits up quickly for gift giving… or cold hands. With the top ribbing folded down, they’re fingerless mitts. With the ribbing up and the drawstring tied tight: they’re mittens, with none of the palm bulk, buttons, or drafts that come with most fold-over-top style convertible mitts. All of this wrapped up with a bow! The thumb is also a tube of ribbing which can be folded up or down.

Written pattern includes 3 adult sizes, ideas for customizing your mitts, and detailed tips for changing size or gauge.

Yarn: Aran weight yarn. Shown in Malabrigo Merino Worsted (210yds/192m, 3.53oz/ 100g) in color 27, Bobby Blue. All sizes can be made with 1 skein. (approx 120-150 yds).
Gauge: 4.5 sts/in (18 sts/4in, 18sts/10cm) in stockinette stitch.
Needles: In size needed to obtain gauge. I used US 5/3.75mm DPNs.
Notions: Two lengths of thin ribbon or cord, 14-20 in/35.5-51 cm long. OR make your cord by hand using I-cord, braiding, or single crochet.
Sizes: 3 adult sizes. Circumference around palm: 7in/18cm (Small), 8in/20cm (Medium), 8.8in/22cm (Large). Shown in “Small”. Select a size with .5in-1in (1.25cm- 2.5cm) negative ease.

Skills: Cast on, cast off, knit, purl, knit in the round on DPNs, M1 increase, YO increase, SSK decrease, K2tog decrease, place stitches on waste yarn/holder, pick up stitches. Optional: I-cord, single crochet, or braiding (for drawstring).
Accessibility Notes: 12 point san-serif font with bolded 14 point headings, no columns (except for abbreviation key). Due to unusual drawstring construction (no drafts!), they may be particularly useful to those with circulatory problems (such as Raynauds), especially when used as an additional layer over gloves.
