This shawl is designed using a traditional triangular construction, with increases at the beginning, the middle and at the end of each alternate row. The patchwork of stocking and garter stitch sections provide interest while knitting, reflecting walking, or hiking, through the varied and sometimes challenging Norfolk countryside, a wild coastal area in the East of the Uk. A countryside of fields, woodlands and even the odd steep slope.

Sometimes you will stride out purposefully through long kitted rows, effortlessly slipping stitch markers as you go. Other times, there will be tricky section changes and marker placements, which may mean constant checking of directions. You may want to go off down by-ways and knit the whole shawl in garter stitch, for example. But be careful if you wander into too much stocking stitch, as you may have problems with the shawl curling.

Whatever journey you take with your shawl, the two main rules to remember are, number one: on alternate rows, increase at the beginning of the row, either side of the centre stitch and at the end of each alternate row.
