Fire Lily is a top-down round yoke sweater elegantly designed with stranded colourwork inspired by the native South African plant known for its striking appearance. In a collaborative effort with Miss La Motte Yarns, a distinguished South African yarn dyer known for her expertise in colour. This hand-dyed yarn enhances the pattern with its depth of colour and quality, ensuring both a rewarding knitting experience and a fantastic finished product.

Finished chest circumference:

• 84.5 (96, 104.5, 115.5, 126.5, 135.5, 145.5, 154.5) cm
• 33¾ (38½, 41¾, 46¼, 50¾, 54¼, 58¼, 61¾)“

Designed to be worn with 0-5 cm / 0-2” positive ease around the chest.

To choose the most appropriate size, measure the wearer’s chest and add the preferred ease. Or measure the circumference of an already-owned sweater that fits well. Then find the closest finished chest circumference.

Yarn: Fingering weight, depending on the length of the pullover, allow approximately:
Main colour (MC):

• 1135 (1250, 1335, 1465, 1565, 1700, 1800, 1925) m
• 1245 (1365, 1460, 1600, 1715, 1860, 1965, 2105) yds

Contrast colour 1 (CC1), used for chart rows 1-23:

• 55 (60, 60, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90) m
• 60 (65, 65, 75, 85, 90, 90, 100) yds

Contrast colour 2 (CC2), used for chart rows 24-43:

• 90 (95, 100, 115, 130, 135, 140, 150) m
• 95 (105, 110, 125, 140, 145, 155, 165) yds

Contrast colour 3 (CC3), used for chart rows 44-65:

• 115 (125, 135, 155, 170, 180, 185, 195) m
• 125 (140, 145, 170, 185, 195, 200, 215) yds

Yarns used in sample (size 2) is Miss La Motte Lofty Plied (100% South African merino superwash; 360 m 383 yds / 100 g): 4 skeins of Cool Pebble as main colour, 1 mini-skein of Gloriosa I as contrast colour 1, 1 mini-skein of Gloriosa II as contrast colour 2, and 1 mini-skein of Gloriosa III as contrast colour 3.

Gauge: 30 sts & 34 rows = 10 cm / 4” in Stockinette stitch and colourwork in the round, blocked. Swatch both plain stockinette and colourwork, as you might need to change needle sizes to maintain the gauge. Block your swatch the same way you plan to block your pullover and let it fully dry before measuring the gauge.

Suggested needles:

• 2.75 mm (US 2) circulars 60-100 cm / 24-40” long and/or DPNs for small circumference knitting
• 2.25 mm (US 1) circulars 60 cm / 24” long

Notions: Stitch markers, locking stitch markers, row counter, stitch holder, tapestry needle.

Techniques used: Knitting in the round, short rows, trapping floats in stranded knitting, lifted increases, tubular bind-off.
Notes: The pullover is worked seamlessly in the round from the top down.
