Floating Ribs Socks
One of my favorite stitches is the broken rib because it is so stretchy and so squishy. However, I’ve always been drawn to the wrong side of knits and absolutely love the ridges and texture of a wrong-side broken rib. I decided to reverse engineering a pair of wrong side broken rib socks with a stretchy cuff, reinforced heel, and snuggly-fit toe. These socks, while purl-heavy, work up quickly, and the wrong-side broken rib is easy to memorize, so it’s perfect for some mindless knitting. You can use any sort of sock needle set-up you like, and the pattern can be modified for a larger size or better fit.
Sizing is based around the circumference of your ankle, not the length of your foot. This pattern is written for 8-9’ (9-10’, 10-11’, 11-12’) ankle circumference.
Needles
Size 2 (2.75 mm) needles or size needed to achieve gauge, either double pointed or circular, depending on your preference
Yarn
420 yards or 100 grams of fingering weight
Gauge
7 stitches and 13 rows for 1 inch in broken rib stitch unblocked in the round
