Fnuggi is an easy raglan sweater to knit. It is called “Fnuggi”, because in Danish “fnug” means to be as light and weightless as a flake or snow, a feather or eiderdown. This sweater is like that, light and weightless to wear.
It is knitted in the round - top down - in one piece from start to finish. It is fast to knit and there are only a few ends to weave in when you have finished knitting.
The neck is shaped with short rows (which is very easy to do), neck ribbing is done first and then short rows are used to shape the neck to make the front of the neck lower than the back, ensuring good fit at the neck. You can also add waist shaping if you like – instructions are included in this pattern.
Gauge: 16 sts and 24 rows over 4 inches in stockinette st. on 5 mm (US 8) circular knitting needles, or size needed to obtain gauge. You can use a needle one or even two sizes smaller for the neck and bottom borders if you wish.
Yarn: In the sweater pictured, I used one thread of Kid Silk Mohair from Mayflower (25 gr/213 yds) together with one thread of Drops Lace (alpaca and silk) - 50 gr/437 yds.
The advantage of knitting top down is that the sweater can be tried on along the way and the circumference can be adjusted with fewer or more increases at the raglan lines.
Finished measurement for 7 sizes from XS – 2XL Bust approx. 85 – 130 cm (33.5” – 51”)
For the sweater pictured above(size L) I used 85 gr of Mohair and 80 gr of Drops Lace (alpaca and silk).
