Fritz & Liesl Alpine Knitted Friends

Yarn needed for Fritz:

Approximately 8½ oz. sport weight yarn

  • 2 oz. skin color (head, hands, legs)
  • 2 oz. sweater color, plus a few yards contrasting color
  • 1 oz. lederhosen grey
  • 1 oz. sock color
  • ½ oz. boot color, plus 1 yard of contrasting color for laces
  • 2 oz. hat color; loden green is most appropriate
  • 1 yard of eye color
  • Bulkier yarn for hair or beard or both

Yarn needed for Liesl:

  • 2 oz. skin color (head, hands, legs)
  • 2 oz. sweater color, plus a few yards contrasting color
  • 2 oz. skirt color
  • 2 oz. pinafore color (we prefer white)
  • 1 oz. underpants (knitters choice!)
  • 1 oz. sock color
  • 1 yd eye color
  • ½ oz. boot or slipper color
  • 2 oz. hat color

Other Materials:

  • 2 sets #2 dpns
  • Crochet hook #F or 0
  • Small tapestry needle
  • Polyester fill
  • Stitch holders (optional)

Fritz and Liesl measure 13” – 14” tall. Their basic design was created by Jacqueline Ruf of Darlington, Wisconsin, and adapted by Carol. Jackie’s husband, Fritz, who was of Swiss heritage, was Jackie’s inspiration.
