The gingerbread cottages in Oak Bluffs on the island of Martha’s Vineyard feel uniquely like home to me. Since birth, I’ve spent time in this special place where people gather to form a community of diverse experiences and perspectives. Generations of families have passed down cherished traditions here, summer after summer, including crafting. To capture the essence of place, with both nostalgia and hope for the future, I designed Gingerbread Whimsy, a top-down, seamlessly constructed yoke sweater with optional short row shaping at the neck and an optional high-low hem at the bottom. Yoke colorwork motif is charted.

Pattern uses a 21 stitch gauge in 4” (10 cm). Pattern addendum includes an alternate gauge of 20 sts in 4” (10 cm). A full schematic with dimensions is included.

Suggested positive ease at full chest, 2 to 6 inches (5 to 15 cm)

Garment circumference at full chest with 21 st gauge: 32 (35.5, 39.25, 42.75) (46.5, 49.25, 52.5, 55.25) (58.25, 62, 66, 70)” / 81.5 (90, 99.5, 108.5) (118, 125, 133.5, 140.5) (148, 157.5, 167.5, 178) cm

In recommended yarn, the number of skeins needed is:
CC: 1 skein for sizes 1–3 (see note); 2 skeins for all other sizes
MC: 5 (5, 6, 6) (7, 7, 8, 8) (9, 9, 10, 10) skeins

SPECIAL NOTE FOR SIZE 3: pattern uses a full skein of Making Tracks as the CC. If you wish to have extra for swatching or color management, please purchase a 2nd skein.

Needle sizes are suggested in the pattern for ribbing, colorwork, sleeves (small circumference) and main body to help manage tension consistently. Everyone knits differently. Always use needles that match intended gauge.

This pattern has been professionally tech edited and test knitted in multiple sizes.
