Glenfinnan is a beautifully structured and fitted sweater jacket featuring a pretzel-knot Aran cable around the center belt band and down each sleeve. This shawl-collared cardigan contains many clever and interesting construction details. The body is knitted flat by picking up stitches along either side of the cabled belt band. The sleeves are knitted flat and sewn into the body. Finally, the wide shawl collar is picked up and worked flat along the sweater’s front sides and back neck. The collar is worked in double moss stitch while cleverly continuing the cabled belt band from the sweater body. It is then finished neatly with an I-cord edging, and two I-cord toggles and buttons keep the cardigan snugly closed.

This pattern includes five sizes: to fit 32 (36, 40, 44, 48)“ chest.

The gauge is 20 stitches and 28 rows over 4” in stockinette stitch. The cabled belt band measures 4” wide when blocked.

This pattern is recommended for intermediate to experienced knitters. You must be able to follow cable charts or written instructions, follow complex shaping instructions, and use techniques such as provisional cast on, Kitchener Stitch, and I-Cord bind off.

The recommended yarn is Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Worsted (100% Peruvian Highland Wool, worsted weight; 110 yds/50g per ball). You will need 10 (12, 14, 15, 18) balls of Shire Heather #25988.You may substitute approximately 1000 (1250, 1450, 1600, 1940) yds of any worsted weight yarn for this pattern, although I do recommend using a wool or wool blend as the wool will help to maintain the blocked shape. You will also need 32” and 60” circular needles in size US 7 or whatever size necessary to obtain the gauge, a cable needle or double pointed needle for the cable work, and a size H (5.0mm) crochet hook for the provisional cast on.

This pattern includes a schematic, and full written instructions as well as a full charts, so that you may choose according to your preference.
