Double Garter stitch is a classic stitch pattern that gives a 3-D pleated look. Worked sideways, the shawl is a big crescent. It incorporates Double Garter to give a rich texture to the sweeping edge.

  • includes instructions for Sport/DK weight (shown in rust) and Fingering weight (shown in green)
  • written pattern, no chart
  • worked sideways; no short rows
  • uses a stitch called Double Garter to create a pleated appearance

Working this stitch sideways was Inspired by the grass on a reconstructed Viking house I visited in Iceland. This pattern is appropriate for an adventurous beginner on up to experienced knitter. The Double Garter can take some getting used to. Once you are comfortable with it, the pattern is memorizable and flies by.
