What is it, exactly, about a house that gives us that “haunted” vibe? We probably all passed one as a kid…that house in the neighbourhood that made you go past just a little bit faster…that nobody would dare knock on the door. This is the less scary version of that house. The “fun-Halloween-vibes-without-the-goosebumps” kind of feeling, with all the different levels and peaks, the broken windows, the widow’s walk, the skinny chimney, and of course the full moon with bats in flight. I hope this sock brings a bit of light-hearted fun to your spooky season (whether that is just for a month or all year long).

These can be knit to fit any teen/adult size in fingering, sport, or DK weight yarn. Yardage required: 250 - 450 yards depending on yarn, gauge, and size.

Measurements and gauges are included for a variety of yarn weights, needle sizes, and stitch counts. I have included 4 stitch counts at 4 different gauges to make it as easy as possible for you to get the exact fit you need.

GAUGE
1) 38 sts x 40 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in colourwork on US1.5 (2.5 mm) needles (suitable for fingering weight).
2) 35 sts x 37 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in colourwork on US2 (2.75 mm) needles (suitable for fingering weight).
3) 28 sts x 30 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in colourwork on US2.5 (3 mm) needles (suitable for sport weight).
4) 22 sts x 30 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in colourwork on US4 (3.5 mm) needles (suitable for DK weight).

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Circumference: 6.25” (15.5 cm) - 15.25” (38 cm), customizable with yarn choice and chart choice.

The pattern is written as a cuff-down sock, with options for both a short-row heel and a forethought heel (just like an afterthought heel, but with waste yarn in place so you don’t have to cut into your sock). It can be knit toe-up by reading the chart upside-down if you know how to do a toe-up toe.

Yardage: depends on yarn weight. 280 - 450 yards

Fingering: A 50g skein of each colour will suffice for up to size 8, or maybe 9. Probably up to about an 11 (women’s) or more if you use contrasting heels, toes, and cuffs. A 100g skein of each colour will do any size.

DK: A 100g skein of each colour will do up to a men’s 11 or so, and you can stretch it by adding contrasting heels, toes, cuffs.
