“Adopt the pace of nature. Her secret is patience.”
--Ralph Waldo Emerson

Life isn’t about rushing around and stressing to get a maximum amount accomplished or acquired. It’s about taking the time to enjoy the simple things, seeing beauty in simplicity, and having the patience to not rush life’s events along. Mother Nature does not rush, and slowly works to give us her works of beauty and splendor when she is ready.

The lesson to be learned is that patience is the secret to living a calm, relaxed and enjoyable life. The same goes for crocheting and knitting--don’t rush your work along or stress over small imperfections. Relax, enjoy and take your time, and your projects will blossom with beauty. My “Her Secret is Patience” scarf is a tribute to Mother Nature.

The design has a boomerang shape and forms a cowl-type scarf, making it very easy to wear with no ends to wrap. The main body of the scarf is an easy two-row repeat, crocheted in diagonal rows. Then, the lace section is a lacy stitch pattern that resembles flowers.

I crocheted my scarf with MadelineTosh Tosh Mo Light in the green color, “Evil Eye”, and Tosh Mo Light in a “one of a kind color” for the lighter color (from MadTosh web site). Pick your own lovely Mother Nature-inspired colors, and relax, crochet and remember that her secret is patience.

You will need about 300 total yards of fingering or sock weight yarn:

  • 210 yards of a solid or tonal color for the main body of the scarf, and the final accent row
  • 90 yards of a lighter color for the lace section
