Tools and Materials
• US size 6 and size 7 circular needles, whatever length you’re most comfortable with - I used 14”
o Using two (2) sets of needles is optional, but people seem to prefer the brim to be a little tighter than the body. The design is not extremely stretchy and you might want to consider size 6 and 8 if this is a concern.
• US size 7 DPNs (4 of them)
• worsted weight yarn in at least two (2) colors
• yarn needle, for closing the top/weaving in ends
• crochet hook (optional, for weaving in ends)
• a stitch marker (optional, but recommended for the crown)

Gauge: As patterned there are approximately 5 sts/inch and 5 rows/inch. This will give you a hat that stretches to about 11” across when lying flat (22” circumference) and about 10” long. This is nice teen or small adult sized hat. If you want to resize then I recommend experimenting with needle size and gauge as well as yarn weight rather than making changes to the design. For a longer slouchier hat, you can lengthen the brim or add more k rnds before beginning the dec rnds for the crown.

There are some additional photos at the end of the pattern to give you ideas about color-changes. The pattern is written so that you can customize your hat’s background however you like.
